Two nights, Friday and Saturday
When
A weekend in early 2027

Included

The house for two nights, and on the Saturday a dinner for your party cooked by the estate's own chef and served in the Great Barn, with the service team looking after you.

Not included

Your own way there, and your drink; bring your own if you would rather, with no corkage. Other meals are self-catering, as the house is the rest of the year.

A long candlelit banqueting table set with silver candelabra runs down a timber-framed barn, with an ornate jewelled unicorn sculpture beside it.
The Great Barn, laid for the Saturday dinner.

There is no cash alternative and the stay is not transferable. The full terms are at the bottom of this page, and they are worth two minutes before you enter.

The estate

A valley, and a hamlet of six houses

Grade II listed, standing here since the fifteenth century, and available either one house at a time or the whole hamlet at once. An hour and a quarter down the M4 from London, closer than the Cotswolds and a great deal quieter, because the valley is private and the gate is yours.

An elevated view of the estate on a clear day: a long tiled barn, a flint and brick house with a half-timbered wing, walled gardens and lawns with a small pond in front, parkland and mature trees beyond.
The hamlet, and the gardens it sits in.
A bedroom with a wrought-iron four-poster bed against a hand-painted jungle mural, a painted chest at the foot of the bed.
One of the bedrooms.
An outdoor swimming pool behind clipped hedges and terracotta pots of white hydrangeas, a long table laid with blue and white china in the foreground.
The pool, and a long table beside it.
A timber-framed barn lit low, with a pool table, a table-football table and a table-tennis table, sporting prints and old cricket bats on the walls.
A barn given over to games.
A bar built into a timber-framed barn, its back shelves lined with bottles and lit by a green neon cricketer, lanterns and candles along the counter.
The bar, under the beams.
A round wooden hot tub set into a circular timber deck at the edge of a lawn, looking out over a wooded valley.
The valley, from the water.

Six houses gathered in the hamlet, with Rotten Row Farmhouse beyond it: seven residences in all, let exclusively or one at a time. burrowfarmestate.com

Your entry

Tell us how you
would spend it

It takes a minute. One line is plenty, and we are reading for the answer we most want to be true rather than for length. Follow @burrowfarmestate before you send it, because we check. Entries close at 11.59pm on 30 November 2026.

Tag the people you would bring in the comments on our Instagram ad if you like. It wins you nothing, but they will want to know they were thought of.

So we can tell you if you have won. Nothing else, unless you say so below.

So we can check the follow. Nothing else.

One good line beats three paragraphs. We read every one.

Two choices, both optional

You can win without ticking any of them. They are separate because they are different things, and each one is yours to give or keep.

By entering you agree to the terms below. We use what you tell us to run the competition and, where you have ticked a box above, for that. Nothing else. The privacy notice below says who holds it and for how long.

Terms and privacy

Competition terms
  1. The promoter is Burrow Farm Estate Ltd, 16 Great Queen Street, London, WC2B 5AH.
  2. Who may enter. Anyone 18 or over and resident in the United Kingdom, except anyone working for the promoter or their immediate family. Guests in the winner's party must also be 18 or over, unless the estate's usual house rules for that property allow under-18s and the winner has confirmed this with the estate when agreeing dates.
  3. Opening and closing. The competition opens when this page is published and closes at 11.59pm on 30 November 2026. Entries after the closing date are not counted.
  4. One entry per person. A second entry from the same person replaces the first rather than adding to it.
  5. How to enter. Follow @burrowfarmestate on Instagram, then complete the form on this page. Entry is free and no purchase is necessary. Tagging anyone in the comments on our Instagram ad is optional, earns no advantage in the judging, and is not required to enter or to win.
  6. How the winner is chosen. This is a competition of skill, not a draw. Entries are judged on the answer to "how you would spend the time", against these criteria:
    • how well the idea suits Burrow Farm Estate and a quiet countryside stay;
    • how much thought and originality is in the answer;
    • how clearly and vividly the stay is imagined.
The judging panel is Nicholas Crane, who administers the competition, and one independent judge with no connection to the estate, its owners or its administrator, whose name is available on request. The independent judge sees every entry and may choose the winner from the full list. If two or more entries are scored equally first, the independent judge's mark decides the winner. The decision is final.
  7. The prize is as described on this page, including which property, the length of the stay, how many people it is for and what the Saturday dinner covers, and its value is stated on this page. It cannot be exchanged for cash or transferred to anybody else. The stay is taken as a Friday and Saturday night in the first quarter of 2027, on a date the estate has available and agreed with the winner in advance. The estate will offer at least two available dates within that period. Beyond that, dates are subject to availability and the promoter may offer alternative dates of equivalent value if the stated ones become unavailable. Travel to and from the estate is not included.
  8. Taking the prize. The winner is responsible for getting there and back, for travel insurance, spending money and personal expenses, and for their party while they are here. The stay is subject to the estate's usual conditions for a stay. The dates are agreed with the estate in advance, and if the winner cannot take any of the dates the estate offers within the stated period, the prize may be forfeited and offered to the next highest-scoring entrant.
  9. Notification, and if we cannot reach a winner. The winner is contacted within fourteen days of the closing date, by email and, if we hear nothing, a message to the Instagram handle entered with. We try at least twice over fourteen days. If the winner has not replied to claim the prize within that time, we may offer the prize to the next highest-scoring entrant and contact them in the same way, repeating this if necessary. If, after reasonable efforts, no winner can be reached, we are not obliged to award the prize.
  10. Publicity. The winner's first name and county may be published. Anything more than that, including a photograph, only with their agreement. A winner can ask us not to publish even that, and we will not; we will still give their name and county to the Advertising Standards Authority if it asks for them. The same details are available to anyone who writes to us within six weeks of the closing date.
  11. Your answer. You keep ownership of what you write. By entering you give the promoter a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use your answer to run and judge the competition and to keep the records described below. We will only quote your answer publicly with your agreement.
  12. Changes to the promotion. We intend to run it exactly as set out here. If something outside our reasonable control makes it necessary, we may extend the closing date, or shorten, amend, suspend or cancel the promotion, and we will say so on this page. If the prize becomes unavailable we may substitute one of equal or greater value. We may refuse or withdraw an entry that breaks these terms, is not genuinely the entrant's own, or is made dishonestly.
  13. Not Instagram's promotion. This promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Instagram, Facebook or Meta.
  14. Our responsibility. As far as the law allows, the promoter is not liable for entries that are lost, delayed, corrupted or not received, or for any loss or disappointment arising from entering, from the prize, or from taking the stay, beyond providing the prize as described. Nothing here limits the promoter's liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence, for fraud, or for anything the law does not allow it to limit.
  15. Entering these terms. Entering the competition means you accept these terms. If any part of them turns out not to be enforceable, the rest still apply.
  16. Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may also rely on the law of, and bring a claim in the courts of, the part of the United Kingdom where you live.
What happens to what you tell us

The plain version: we use your entry to run the competition. If you ticked either box, we also use your details for that one thing. We do not sell anything to anybody.

Who holds it

Burrow Farm Estate Ltd, 16 Great Queen Street, London, WC2B 5AH is the data controller. Any question about your data reaches the people running the competition at burrowfarmestate@thecraneconsultancy.com.

What we hold, and why

  • Your name, email and Instagram handle, and your answer, to run and judge the competition and to tell the winner. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a promotion we have announced, and performance of these terms once you have entered.
  • Your occasion, if you choose to give one, to understand who comes to the estate and to plan how we advertise. Legitimate interests again.
  • The first names you give us for the people you would bring. First names only, because they have not agreed to anything. If you type an email address or a phone number for somebody else, it is removed before your entry is stored.
  • Anything you ticked above, with the exact sentence you were shown and the moment you ticked it, so we can show what you agreed to. Consent is the basis for each of those, and only for those. Withdrawing a tick later does not affect your competition entry.

How long

The details we hold to run the competition, your name, email, Instagram handle, occasion and answer, are kept for three months after the closing date and then deleted, except the winner's, which we keep until the stay is complete and for up to twelve months afterwards for our records. If you ticked either box, we keep your details for that purpose for as long as you want to hear from us, until you ask us to stop, which you can do in one click at any time. Entries that did not win are used only for judging and are not used for marketing unless a box was ticked.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, including in a portable form, ask us to correct or delete it, object to us using it, or withdraw any tick above at any time, and withdrawing one does not affect the others or your entry. Write to burrowfarmestate@thecraneconsultancy.com. If you are not happy with how we answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Who else sees it

Our website and email suppliers, who hold it on our behalf and may not use it for anything of their own. If you ticked the advertising box, your email address is matched into Instagram, Facebook and Google so our advertising can reach you; those companies act on their own account for that. The judging panel see your answer and the details needed to score and contact a winner; they do not use your details for anything else.

Cookies, and only if you say yes

If you press Accept on the cookie question, this page loads the estate's Google Tag Manager, which sets Google Analytics, Google Ads and Meta cookies so the estate can see which adverts brought visitors and entries. Google and Meta receive that information and also use it on their own account. By default Google's analytics cookie lasts up to two years and Meta's up to 90 days. If you press Reject, or answer nothing, none of this is loaded and nothing is set. Either way your entry is judged the same. You can change your answer with Cookie choices at the foot of the page.

Where it goes

Some of those suppliers, and Meta and Google, are based outside the United Kingdom, so your details may be handled in the United States. Where that happens it is under the safeguards the UK recognises for such transfers, which are an adequacy decision or the UK addendum to the standard contractual clauses. You can ask us which applies to a particular supplier.

If you would rather not wait for the result

The estate takes bookings all year, one house at a time or the whole hamlet at once. burrowfarmestate.com
